Sweet Home Chicago

“Our Kinda Town!”

2003 Chicago

For 2003, we spent the holidays with family, just like in the old days, and we played Chicago tourists.

Says Rudy, "I better make sure my nose is clean before those city folk see me!"

Ridin' the rails.

We're on our way downtown for fun (we assume),

adventure (I'm guessing the cab ride will be a lot like Disneyland's "the Matterhorn"), and maybe even a taste of other cultures (asks Rudy, "is that guy digging in the dumpster a real bum?").

Luke hollers, "I saw the penny first. I call it!"

Luke was impressed, "I knew Lincoln was a big man, but I had no idea."

Actually, we were "underground" at the Field Museum.  This big penny was pretty cool and there goes Rudy again, with his "nose" fixation.

It's Godzilla!

"It's Godzilla!"

You either get it or you don't.

Asks Luke, "Dad, is it alright if I just keep your 50 cents instead of putting it in the telescope?"

Here we are in the Sears Tower. Sure we've been there many times, but it it still very cool.

To get such a clear shot, I applied my old photography class lesson to add a little fill-in flash to get both the background and the ... OK, you could care less. Fine. Enjoy the picture.

Look at us. We're standing by art in our winter coats!

Ah the last Picasso, the last Picasso was just acquired by some old museum.

Fortunately, this Picasso is still at the Daley Plaza where it's rested since 1967.

I remember when it was first unveiled and the big question was,

"what is it? A bird or a woman?"

Years later, the boys asked, "what is it? Art or a pile of iron?"

Look how they massacred my boy!

Look how they massacred my boy.

It's called the "eyesore on the lakeshore" and, man, it is.

What can I say? It's my favorite:
